Five Ton Monkey Fabrication Shop Uses Smooth-On Materials to Create Face Shield Machine

Published November 9, 2020

Five Ton Monkey, a fabrication shop located in Albuquerque, NM usually spends their time fabricating props, set pieces and elements for immersive environments and various objects for the film industry.  However, when COVID-19 started to play a major part in everyone’s daily lives they took the time to produce face shields which would protect essential workers.

The State of New Mexico caught wind of their face shield production and contracted them to produce over 300,000 shields. To save time and create more of a fluid workflow, they developed special face shield production machines that incorporated elements key to the machines function with Smooth-Cast™ 300.

Five Ton Monkey’s favorite Smooth-On materials to work with are Smooth-Cast™ series urethane plastics, Task™ 15 for rotocasting, Mold Star™ Platinum Silicones for block molds, and Rebound™ Series for brush on molds.
