Customer Spotlight – Al Navas

Published March 24, 2017

The Reynolds Advanced Materials – Los Angeles spotlight focuses on customer Dr. Al Navas.  By day, Dr. Navas is a dentist in Long Beach, California.  For over 30 years, Dr. Navas has also been a sculptor of stone and bronze.  Dr. Navas’s hobby as a sculptor has landed him the opportunities to exhibit his pieces in Laguna Beach, California, and he has won the art Competition at the Orange County Fair.

Over the past year, Dr. Navas has moved away from bronze and stone and turned to casting in resin products from Reynolds. One of his latest projects was created for his wife, who asked that he create a turtle for her. He immediately turned to the team at Reynolds Advanced Materials for help, as he created his turtle sculpture out of porcelain clay. Inside technician Glenn, “guided me patiently through the process”, Dr. Navas said.

When it came time to proceed with his project, Dr. Navas used Mold Max® STROKE brushable silicone rubber to create the mold and cast the piece in Smooth-Cast® 300 white urethane resin.  The texture for the base of the sculpture was created using Free Form® AIR, which is a lightweight epoxy putty.
