This gallery will show a step-by-step techique for molding a face using Alja-Safe® Acrobat® fiber reinforced lifecasting material.
Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is a fiber reinforced "non-sag" version of original Alja-Safe® life casting alginate. Acrobat is thicker and holds vertical surfaces allowing the user better control for making molds of the face, torso, etc. Alja-Safe® Acrobat® reproduces perfect detail from all body surfaces and is good for making temporary molds that can be used to make highly detailed reproductions cast in wax, plaster, Matrix® NEO® (polymer modified gypsum), platinum cure silicone or Smooth-Cast® 300Q ultra-fast urethane resin.
Easy To Use – Mix ratio is 1 part Alja-Safe® Acrobat® powder sifted into 1 part water (1:1 by volume). Working time is 5 minutes and cure time is 8 minutes, assuming a water temperature of 80° F / 27° C.
Like original Alja-Safe® - Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is skin safe and does not contain crystalline silica (a known carcinogen).
Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is measured into a plastic cup.
An equal amount of water is measured out.
Alja-Safe® Acrobat® has a 1:1 mix ratio by volume.
The Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is firmly packed into the cup.
The model is prepared with a non-latex plastic bald cap.
The water is poured into a mixing container.
The Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is sifted onto the water.
The material is mixed rapidly and thoroughly. A turbine drill mixer may also be used.
The resulting material holds a vertical surface well.
the Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is applied to the face of the model using a wooden spatula.
The material is smoothed over the surface of the face. Nostril holes are left open to pride an airway.
A small wooden stick is used to further smooth out the material.
After 10 minutes, the Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is fully cured.
Gypsona® plaster bandages are moistened in warm water.
The bandages are placed over the cured Alja-Safe® Acrobat®.
The bandage support shell can be is allowed to cure for 10 minutes.
The bandage support shell is gently removed.
The Alja-Safe® Acrobat® is peeled away. The fiber reinforcement of Alja-Safe® Acrobat® reduces the risk of the mold tearing.
Alja-Safe® Acrobat® captures excellent detail.
A small amount of clay is used to seal the nostril holes.
duoMatrix NEO® - a polymer gypsum casting material - is measured out 2A:1B by volume and mixed.
duoMatrix NEO® is brushed into the mold. For more info on NEO®, CLICK HERE
Additional duoMatrix NEO® is added to provide strength.
After 60 minutes, the bandage support shell is removed.
The Alja-Safe® Acrobat® mold is removed from the cast duoMatrix NEO®.
A wooden tool is used to remove any slight defects.
The duoMatrix NEO® casting reflects excellent detail.
